Tafa Citizens and Guests - Role Playing Rules

The following are essential guidelines that represent the basis of law in the city of Tafa. Citizens and guests alike are expected to abide by these laws upon entering and throughout their stay in the city of Tafa. All visitors and their guests, slaves or familiars will be furnished with a copy of this document before they arrive in the city.

1. Potential Citizens must swear to the Home Stone in a ceremony led by the Administrator, or in his absence by the city's Magistrate.

2. A guest's application for citizenship will be considered by the city's High Council. There will be a hand probationary period before the council votes on the application. The council's decision will be sent to the Administrator or Magistrate, for the citizen to be sworn in, and the En-Scribe for public posting.

3. Guests and visitors must have an invitation issued by a citizen of Tafa. Such guests are the responsibility of their host. Guests must show proper behavior while staying in the city. The hosts will be cited for any unlawful acts by their guests. Those without an invitation to be within the city will be detained by the city watch and/or ejected from the city upon revision. All who are invited to Tafa must be issued a pass. All passes must be approved by the city's Administrator. Please send all requests to him, Dartanion Storm

4. Property may be owned only by sworn citizens of the city. Non citizens who wish to conduct trade within the city may rent a stall in the city's market, but cannot keep a permanent business. No guest or visitor is allowed to purchase tracks of land or houses, or hold an official title within a House.

Guest Passes:

* Passes will be issued for a two week probationary period. Those wishing to swear to Tafa will be evaluated on their compatibility with those already of the Homestone of Tafa, by the members of the High Council. Tafa is intent on having a reputation for book gorean roleplay.

The laws of Tafa extend no further than its walls. Once you step outside the city, her laws do not apply and Tafa cannot protect you.

All Tafa Citizens must swear their alligiance to the Homestone of Tafa.

Theft of the Home Stone of Tafa is punishable by extreme torture followed by death.

Entering the city without a city pass in not allowable.

Those wishing to come to Tafa must first join an established House. The formation of any new Houses must be petitioned to the HC and approved by the Administrator.

Basic Guidelines of Tafa:

To ensure a higher standard of RP, the Tafa High Council has established the following Guidelines.

Everyone role playing (RP) in the Civitatis of Tafa agrees to the following conditions:

1. Minimum mun age for Role Play in Tafa is 18, no exceptions.

2. Mun consent is given automatically when entering Tafa, and all of the Tafa rooms, and the understanding that the players shall abide by the Guide Lines of our City. (Remember this is Gor and good things happen as well as bad. Leave your mun outside the chat room. We are here to have fun and play.)

3.) OOC and IC Crossing is not allowed. Repeat offenders will be ignored in rp.

4.) * We ask that you restrict yourself to two free characters within the city at any one time. Any more then that robs us all of getting to know an indepth character and leads to confusion.

5.) This city plays by the books. You play within the walls of Tafa, you will play as closely to the books as possible. Please use the right of mun concent with discretion and integrity and not simply to avoid a mistake made by your character.

6.) If your character is collared or killed, get over it. There is nothing to prevent you from creating a new name and coming back to the city again to participate in the quality RP we are trying to establish. (Understand in this though, that Goreans respected life above all things.) There was no suicide, and there were no unjust killings of slaves.

7.) Pet larls, etc., are not played, with the exception of vart, giani, small domestic animals and hunting herlit which will be NPC'd. Sleens are penned and controlled as NPC's.

8.) If your character has children, and most Companioned Freewoman end up doing so, the NPC is your responsibility to play. Children (with muns even played properly) found wandering will be placed in the city care gardens until they are of age to be enslaved. Although Gorean children were spoiled, given liberties beyond those of earth children, no disrespect will be accepted. Goreans had a good feel for the natural order of things, and their placement and a respect for such. All members are asked to place the city name within their profiles for easy finding in the member directory. Since Tafa is a common word in the member search we ask that -Tafa- is placed there instead. We are all here to have fun. The joy of RP is you can make a new character and play almost anything. Stretch your mind and imagination to the possibilities. The only limits on you are what you place and those of a common decorum of acceptance and tolerance of those you RP with and the guidelines set forth by Aol.

*Adendum reflects changes voted into being by the Tafa HC*

Rude thoughts:

Any adverse (rude) "thoughts" that would normally cause strong reactions from others in a room will not be tolerated and will be treated exactly as if they were spoken aloud. Offenders will be asked to leave immediately.

Non-Playing Characters (NPC's):

Tafa is RP'd around the assumption that there are many people living here besides the active SN's.

Additional:

We do not allow those without Gorean profiles to play in Tafa, and if we find you have taken your character to another realm or city, your citizenship will be revoked.

We encourage everyone to work with each other, and use creativity in their role play and try to help and play with all in the city and in city-wide story lines. Story-lines are very important to enjoyable role-play.

Collaring:

A slave may be collared at anytime without use of "dice" in public areas and private rooms (PR's). FW, while it is generally known that a Writ of Enslavement is needed, this does not however mean they are completely safe should they be offensive enough to warrant a collar. No FW will be collared except by Judicial rule unless in extreme (ie She attacks a male physically)cases. She will be arrested and held until the offended male and the leader of her House can negotiate a settlement. (Logs should be saved of the offense.) Anyone taking such action must be sure it is a collarable offense and brought to the attention of the Administrator and immediately. Should it be found the FW does not warrant a collar it will be overturned.

The principle of "conduct indicating suitability for the collar" deals with conduct by a free woman sufficient to warrant her reduction to slavery. It is commonly applied to fraud, theft, indigence, vagrancy, prostitution, and indulgence in sensuous dance. Other behavior which might trigger the principles includes attempting to spy on masters and slaves, disguising oneself as a slave, garbing oneself as a slave even in the supposed secrecy of one's own compartment, baring too much flesh, lingering about slave shelves and markets, and even exhibiting an interest in or fascination with bondage. The principle deals with overt behavior and not thoughts. The Magistrates normally must decide if such behavior is sufficient to warrant a reduction to slavery.

When a person is collared, it cancels their past. They begin a new life as a slave and may not be held accountable for any crimes that occurred while they were free.

A contract collaring will not be interferred with except to meet the contract price.

Free Women:

FW in Tafa WILL maintain the dignity of their robes.

Robes of concealment and veils are not required by law for free women. But they are required by custom. It is strongly recommended that all free women wear robes and veils in public.

Women will nott head Houses in Tafa. They may have a En' Sword or male member take care of the business of running it for them.

FW may be members of the Assassin, or Thieves castes only if they are accepted to that caste by meeting their caste requirements. We cannot ignore the caste practice but try to play close to Book Gor and adhere to the standard practices of Norman. In addition, Free Women who belong to the Warrior Caste are never trained to be warriors.

Sword wielding women are not permitted in Tafa.

It is understood that women can own Houses but a warrior will oversee it and tend to its safe keeping for the woman.

Striking of a freewoman of the city is strictly prohibited, unless she strikes the first blow. If her behavior is displeasing, then a report of her action shall be given to her companion or guardian for them to deal with as they deem appropriate.

In the event a female citizen of Tafa is threatened or struck without provocation then her companion, guardian or one who will stand for her may issue a challenge on her behalf to the offender. The severity of the match (death or merely to first blood or some other point) is decided by he who issues the challenge. If the result of the match not end the issue then the Magistrates will hear the case. The disjoin of the Magistrates, supported by the Administrator will be the final word.

Property:

Slaves are considered property. Their owner may do anything they wish to them without repercussion. Slaves may not own anything, including a name. Even though they may use goods, they do not own them. At no time will a slave touch weapon. It is a capital offense for slaves to wield any weapon.

Slaves must wear a visible token of their bondage.

The property of one who becomes a slave is transferred to the nearest male relative, or nearest relative if no male exists, or to the city, or a guardian. Even if the slave gets freed, the property cannot be recovered. If their owner dies, the slave passes to the heirs or if no heirs, to the city.

Active possession of a slave is regarded as crucial by the law. If a lost, stolen or runaway slave is taken by another owner, the original owner has only two (2) weeks to regain his property before legal title passes to the new owner. The slave remains the property of the original owner only for that duration if he does not regain possession.

The offspring of a slave is a slave and belongs to the mother's owner.

If a slave strikes a free person, the penalty is commonly death.

The penalty for selling a slave that is not your own, without the owner's permission is exile for a man, and slavery for a woman.

Freed slaves require explicit papers of manumission or they may be enslave again without repercussion. Slaves who have been branded and later freed should always keep their papers handy at all times.

IC City Guidelines:

The Administrator will arbitrate minor disputes such as thefts, tavern brawls, fires. He is responsible for the calling of the guards, citizen applicants, and most legal documents. Major disputes such as murder, rape of a FW, fighting over land for example are brought before the Administrator and HC as well.

For a FW to be collared in the city, a Writ of Enslavement is standard practice. (See Collaring above.) A log and record of the reasons must be sent to the Regent and HC. Should it be found without merit, the FW will be released. They have the right to argue it before the Administrator and HC.

Alliances:

Alliances made with another city are to be honored by all citizens. We are a member of the Vosk League, and as such abide by what is set forth.

Thieves:

Thieves will be brought before the Administrator for punishment. Thievery is illegal and harshly punished. The first offense is punished by an ear notching. For a second offense, the punishment depends on the sex of the offender. Males are punished by the loss of their left hand and both feet. Females are punished by enslavement.

Traitorous acts of any kind against Tafa or her people is punishable by impalement. This includes relaying of city information pertaining to war or other similar information damaging to our city. NO IC or OOC information is to be given out whether by a Tafan character or by crossing.

Crossing:

If you take information gained under one SN and use it with another SN or share information with one not related in anyway to Tafa or her people, your citizenship will be revoked.

Treason:

Traitorous acts of any kind against Tafa or her people is punishable by impalement. This includes relaying of Island information pertaining to war or other similar information damaging to our city. NO IC or OOC information is to be given out whether by a Tafan character or by crossing.

Death:

If you RP out the death of your character by either word or action, you will be considered dead and logs and missives sent out pertaining to such. In a Death Match (DM) if your character agrees to fight to the death and does so and loses, we expect you to honor the result of the DM. If there are any questionable circumstances while in the DM, STOP the DM to resolve the dispute or question. If you continue the DM to the end the final outcome will stand.
